Phase 1 phonics - “I spy” blending with Miss Kandt

Today we will be playing the phonics game “I spy”. This is something we play often in class as it works on the skill of blending. This skill is incredibly important for children to master as they begin to read and write words.

This activity is also very simple to play at home. Some objects you could use are hat, egg, boot, book, shoe, chair, pot, bin, pan, box, bag, sock, pin, pen. Children’s toys are also great, in school we use plastic farm animals, cuddly toys, play food, and small world characters. If you don’t have any of these, you could draw or print objects on paper, or even cut them out of magazines.
