Local containment model 'most likely' to be effective: Health Minister

Local containment model 'most likely' to be effective: Health Minister It’s more likely than not Victoria will get on top of its latest coronavirus outbreak, according to Health Minister Greg Hunt.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Tuesday that he would be locking down 10 postcodes in the greater Melbourne area, in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Under lockdown restrictions, there are four reasons for leaving home, including to give or receive care, to work or study, to shop for essential items and for exercise.

“We believe that the local containment model is the most likely to be effective,” Mr Hunt told Sky News.

“Throughout we have been very careful and cautious not to set false expectations.

“Nobody is in a position to make false promises.

“We are going to have to live with this disease for a long while.”

The restrictions will remain in place for at least the next four weeks.

The state recorded 77 new cases on Thursday.
