New CHP plant in Germany - a vital part of the energy system | Wärtsilä

New CHP plant in Germany - a vital part of the energy system | Wärtsilä As a part of the EPC and maintenance agreement between Wärtsilä and Kraftwerke Mainz-Wiesbaden AG (KMW), a state-of-the-art 100 MW flexible Combined Heat & Power (CHP) power plant was delivered to KMW, a municipal energy producer of Germany, in early 2020.

With their new CHP plant, KMW is able to serve the citizens of Mainz with reliable and efficient power supply. In addition, KMW’s affordable district heating reaches approximately 40,000 households.

Besides serving the local energy needs, this collaboration between Wärtsilä and KMW is supporting Germany’s Energiewende transition plan. With their new CHP plant, KMW is helping Germany in its aims to build a society where 80% of energy production by 2050 will come from sustainable and affordable renewable sources.
