Regional Australia ‘may be the winner’ out of COVID-19

Regional Australia ‘may be the winner’ out of COVID-19 Sky News host Peter Gleeson says “in every pandemic, there are winners and losers” however Australia’s regional communities “may very well be the biggest winners from this crisis in the long term”.

He said many Australians have managed to become “reconnected” with their families during the coronavirus pandemic due to the government’s strict social distancing measures.

He said many of those families “will inevitably drift into the regions, turning their back on the helter skelter lifestyle of living in a busy capital city”.

“This is great news for the regions and the bush.

“So, while we are headed for tougher times, certainly the upside in all of this s that the regional centres of Australia will become much more attractive to those who live in cities.

“Regional cities need to formulate strategies to attract and keep city slickers coming to their cities and towns.”
