Prof. Javed Akram Talking about the Vulnerability of smokers to #COVID19

People who smoke or consume sugary drinks are more vulnerable to Coronavirus as their health is already compromised. 4 billion packs of cigarettes are sold and approximately 2.06 billion liters of sugary drinks are produced in Pakistan annually. A surcharge of rs.10/pack of cigarette and rs.1/250ml of sugary drinks will help the government generate approximately 50 billion rupees annually. In light of the current pandemic, the government should impose a surcharge on tobacco products and sugary drinks and utilize this additional 50 billion rupees to address the financial distress that the country is facing right now.
