HOMEOWNERS MUST WATCH! Recent headlines by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo and President Trump claiming to have postponed or "forgiven" the next 2-3 months is nothing but a GUIDANCE. This is not by law and should not be taken lightly if you are a homeowner.
The banks were asked by the elected officials not to report the late payments to the credit berus, waive late fees and any other types of fees. It is up to the banks to decide what type of policy they want to adopt for the coming months.
Homeowners MUST reach out to their mortgage provider/servicer to create an agreement. Get this agreement in writing/email so you have proof. Each bank is handling the scenario on a case by case.
